A soft, inflatable patient support
نویسندگان
چکیده
BACKGROUND Patient support is frequently required during just one part of a procedure (eg the pelvis for the perineal portion of an abdominoperineal resection of the rectum). This is commonly achieved by placing a gel patient positioner underneath the pelvis. However, this positioner can remain in place for a long time and we had noticed that patients complained occasionally of back pain after the operation. It was thought that this might be attributable to the placement of the support under the pelvis.

Periosteal expansion of rabbit mandible with an osmotic self-inflatable expander.
We aimed to evaluate a new technique for intraoral expansion of soft tissue with a self-inflatable expander in rabbits. We placed a self-inflatable soft tissue expander bilaterally in eight rabbits under the periosteum of the mandible through an extraoral approach. The expander was left to self-inflate for two weeks, after which the animals were killed and specimens collected for histological e...

متن کاملThe penoscrotal surgical approach for inflatable penile prosthesis placement
Optimizing outcomes with placement of inflatable penile prostheses (IPPs) can be challenging, especially in inexperienced hands. In this article, we outline Dr. Köhler's penoscrotal penile prosthesis surgical approach. We also highlight patient selection, post-operative care and complications.
متن کاملAB138. Urinary incontinence could be controlled by inflatable penile prosthesis
Objective: Due to the increasing numbers of radical prostatectomy performed for prostate cancer, a substantial and increasing number patients suffer from postoperative urinary incontinence and also erectile failure. Despite the improving surgical techniques, the reported incontinence rates are between 5% and 48%. In patients with dual problems of ED and incontinence, to see whether inflatable p...
متن کاملReal-Time, Soft Robotic Patient Positioning System for Maskless Head-and-Neck Cancer Radiotherapy
We present an initial examination of a novel approach toward accurately positioning a patient during head and neck intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT). Positionbased visual-servoing of a radio-transparent soft robot is used to control the flexion/extension cranial motion of a manikin head. A Kinect RGB-D camera is used to measure head position and the error between the sensed and desired po...
